Introduction
The purpose of this analysis is to provide a chronological list of the events of the four Gospels for side-by-side comparison and to explain the similarities and differences in their grouping and ordering. Also included are events in the parallel passages of the Acts of the Apostles and these are grouped with events in the Gospel of Luke.
Harmonization of Events in the Four Gospels
This section contains a list of passages found in the four Gospels. Each passage corresponds to a discrete event or teaching in the life of Christ. In the side-by-side comparison below, the events are ordered chronologically in four columns each corresponding to one of the four Gospels. If an event occurs in one Gospel at a different time than in the other Gospels, that event will appear another time in the alternate location in the chronology.
The life of Christ is subdivided into the following sections:
· Beginning and Early Years · Early Public Ministry · Galilean Ministry · Judean and Perean Ministry · Arrest, Crucifixion and Burial · Resurrection and Ascension · Resurrection and Ascension (with Mark 16:9-20 replaced with preserved original in Matthew 28:9-10,16-20)
The following rules apply:
· A passage is highlighted using the following color scheme if it appears in one or more gospel at the location shown in the chronology:
· A passage is in gray italics if it appears in an alternate location in the chronology (showing difference in ordering).
· An ordered sequence of related passages is boxed (showing similarity in grouping) using the following color scheme:
o A blue box or red box represents a section of Mark (in blue) that appears in a different location in Matthew or Luke (in red).
o A black box represents a section of Mark that is either entirely absent or nearly absent from Matthew or Luke.
o A gray box represents a section of Matthew and Luke that does not appear in Mark.
o A green box or orange box represents a section of Luke (in green) that has been moved (by me) to another place in the chronology (in orange).

Analysis
The following decisions were made regarding the harmonization and ordering of events in the life of Christ.

Conclusion
The chronological arrangement of events in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke are strikingly similar. This stands in stark contrast to the amazing dissimilarity that exists between the Gospels of Matthew and Luke in the order of passages not found in the Gospel of Mark. This supports (but does not prove) the theory of Markan priority.
